“You are one ride away from a good mood.” — Sarah Bentley

I spend my working days teaching history and geography and maybe that’s why I’ve always had a love of cycling. With a bicycle you can explore the world in ways you cannot do with a car. It opens you up to the world around you – (if you don’t believe me, try and experience our great riverside greenway to Oldbridge on a car – you won’t get to see much). It also allows us to experience the urban geography of Ireland’s biggest town without worrying about parking fees or traffic congestion.

Using a bicycle also brings us back in time to a more civilised era, an era without snarled up roads, honking horns and diesel fumes. It’s a time machine and this one doesn’t need a flux capacitor. Like Marty McFly, we in Drogheda Cycling hope to change our town’s future by exploring the past.

When I was growing up in Ennis, in the 1980s our bicycles opened up the world to us. It gave us our first taste of independence and allowed us to expand our horizons. Now that I’ve made Drogheda my home I hope to give that sense of freedom to my children, and hopefully to yours. Join us, and we’ll make Drogheda a safer, healthier and happier place to live and to travel around – one pedal stroke at a time.
